FILOALFA® partner of Air Factories

We at FILOALFA® care about the fight against COVID-19 and try to make our filaments and know-how available to the realities involved at the moment.
For this reason, we decided to support the Air Factories project, a non-profit platform that connects the national requests of hospital companies, with makers, designers, startups, and FabLabs who want to collaborate to provide PPE to doctors.

The Air Factories platform, in fact, collects internal contacts of 3D printers scattered throughout Italy and provides their geo-location, thus allowing the hospital in an emergency to make a call requesting help in the realization of a specific component.

Air Factories is, therefore, the first "distributed factory", born in Messina during the emergency, and today the group already has more than 600 people from all over Italy and some from European countries.

Many calls completed

Although it was born a few weeks ago, the project has been a huge success and to date there are many calls completed. At this link you can read the updated list and participate in the open calls.

How the Air Factories project was born

Air Factories was born in a moment of health emergency due to the COVID-19, from the union between the Engineering Department of the University of Messina, Innesta (business incubator and startup), the spinoff SmartME.io and the innovative startup Neural.

Air Factories is a "distributed factory" that connects several public-private entities with the aim of quickly exchanging ideas and information, between citizens, researchers, startups and companies working in the field of rapid prototyping and innovative technologies, first of all 3D printing, in order to network and, above all, "control and coordination center" for the realization of components and prototypes useful to deal with the emergency.

The first step was to geo-localize all the operating machines present on the national and international territory in order to allow any hospital company in an emergency to request a specific component or emergency system.
